July already?!?

Running has given me an opportunity to reach out and be a benefit to a fellow human being.

Mark Goldstein on the Komen Race for the Cure, a 5-K that raises breast cancer awareness
--------------------------------

I received that from Runner's World's "Daily Kick in the Butt." I thought about that quote and I came to the understanding that while Mr. Goldstein used his running to raise funds for breast cancer awareness/research, I use running to help others try and get fit. That was made clearer when I told a friend of mine that I had deactivated my facebook account. She was disappointed b/c she had used my RYAO running group as her source for information and such. So I directed her to this blog. The running blog that no one really reads or responds to. Maybe she will. Maybe she'll get others interested. Maybe she'll become her area ME and inspire others to get out there and run THEIR a$$es off. Who knows. I just know that even if it's only ONE person, it's something, right?

Now, get out there and RYAO!!!

Happy National Running Day!

Today was National Running Day. I didn't really want to run, but I've ingested a LOT of calories so I thought, "This is what I get." *ugh*

I'm excited over the notion of motivating others to at least attempt running. We may not be great runners. In fact, we're just happy to finish a run without passing out, but we at least get out there and try. That's what's important. Improving time and all that other stuff will come.

So, how 'bout you? Why do you run? To get fit? To reach a goal? Just to prove you can? Either way, get out there and RYAO!

Wow...6:30 am? Really?

Not sure what got into me this morning, but I woke up (willingly), made breakfast for me and Matt Carr, took care of Arnold, then went out for a 3+ mile run. WHAT? I guess I'm getting ready for Summer when I'll be able to do such things.

Looking forward to the Morgan's Wonderland 5K. I'm trying to shave off some time so I can reach an 11' mile. That still seems like a long time, but I'm working my way down to a 9' mile. *pffffffffff
While out on my run, I saw someone riding a gator towards me. I realized it was Matt Carr. I thought to myself, "Whew, I'm glad he drove up and I was running. I hate the thought of him catching me when I'm walking. Ok, don't walk. Make it to the gate. You can do this!" Guess what? I didn't. I ALMOST did, but stopped 15 feet short or so, but I did almost sprint the last 30 feet or so. Does that make up for it? Anyone? Anyone? *sigh*

Well, I have a ton to do today. One of which is to actually SIGN UP for the Morgan's Wonderland 5K. TTFN and get out there and RYAO!!!

Beach to Bay 2011

Dear Readers (Becca and Nancy),
Just wanted to let you know that if you EVER decide to run Beach to Bay, have patience because the traffic was horrible and our plan, while well thought out, was faulty. Be prepared to do whatever is necessary to get to where you need to go even if that means you show up FIVE THOUSAND HOURS before your scheduled run time. Also, be willing to catch a ride with complete strangers (even if they look like the guy/girl you saw on America's Most Wanted the night before). Otherwise, you'll NEVER get to where you want to go. The race was tons of fun. We didn't place, OBVIOUSLY. I don't even think that we got our time registered because the course closes at 1:00 p.m. and we came in a bit after that. Sad to say that our "best efforts" weren't quite best enough. There's always next year. Our plan for next year is to try a married couples team. All we need to do is get Zarder and Pacheco to get hitched and it'll be a TRUE married couples team. hahaha
My next race is Farias 5K. That should go WAY easier!!!

It's almost time

Beach to Bay (Corpus Christi, Texas) is fastly approaching. I think the team is getting ready. I hope the team is getting ready. I was proud to have run with a friend of mine yesterday (Saturday). She ran her first 5K and she finished under an hour! I'm so proud of her for not quitting. My shins are killing me today, but it was TOTALLY worth being by her side to see the look on her face as she crossed the finish line.

Until next time! RYAO

Woah! What?

My thoughts kept telling me NOT to go running. My body said, "you're tired so go home and take a nap." I didn't listen. I changed out of my work clothes (I pack my gym bag everyday just in case) and into my workout clothes. I traded my Gianni Bini shoes for my Mizunos and headed out for a run. I didn't run the whole time. In fact, I walked 1/4 to 1/2 of the time. I just wasn't in it, but it didn't stop me today.

I am the victor.

I am the conqueror.

I - AM - A - RUNNER!

Scavenger Dash 2011

I'm VERY nervous b/c tomorrow is a race downtown San Antonio and my partner can't come so I got a sub. I hope that 1) they let her run with me and 2) we don't look too bad. I don't really know a lot about downtown and neither does Johnson. So long as we get done quickly and before 4:00 pm, we're in good shape. Our team name is Sole Sisters. I really wanted to make t-shirts with shoe prints all over it, but we just ran out of time. Maybe I can get it done in the morning? We'll see.
Wish me luck! I'll post pictures soon!
